Flying to New Horizons
A new attraction for Kunshan
The Kunshan German Industrial Park was jointly established by the Kunshan Municipal Government and the German Chamber of Commerce in 2005. In order to further improve the functions of the park, to enhance the brand influence and the popularity of the German Industrial Park, the plan is to build a new cultural and industrial exhibition center. The idea is to create something special, to build a new landmark for Kunshan. To make that happen, VIRTUARCH was asked to bring in its experience and its creativity.
A plane taking off: Elegance with a symbolic touch
The construction scale of the new exhibition center designed by VIRTUARCH is 3,000 m2 and four floors above ground. The complex situation of the property was used as an opportunity to create a unique design and a new landmark for Kunshan. The triangular form is inspired by the ascending shape of an origami airplane. This is a symbol for the goal of the Sino-German cooperation to take off to new horizons.
Complex preconditions. Unique solution
The basic idea of the new exhibition center is to make full use of the limited space by combining two triangles. A central traffic corridor in the middle connects the north and south parts, thus creating a rich interior space. Using the concept of the Suzhou Gardens, visitors can experience different views while walking around. The lower base of the building is a concrete structure, the upper part consists of a steel structure.
