On November 29 2024, the 16th Suzhou Appreciation Meeting organized by the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CICC) was successfully held in Suzhou. As an annual flagship business event in the region, the meeting brought together companies, organizations, and business leaders to celebrate achievements and explore new opportunities for future collaboration.
The meeting highlighted Italy’s strong presence in China, with the Yangtze River Delta region accounting for 60% of Italian investments. Suzhou hosts the largest Italian industrial hub outside Europe, and trade between Italy and Jiangsu totals $9.2 billion. The event was attended exclusively by Italian companies and CICC members, with key guests including H.E. Massimo Ambrosetti, Ambassador of Italy to China, and Ms. Tiziana D’Angelo, Consul General of Italy in Shanghai. Ambassador Ambrosetti engaged with over 40 Italian companies in Suzhou, emphasizing the importance of strengthening Italy-China business relations.
With the important visits of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the Italian President Sergio Mattarella to China in 2024, Ambassador Ambrosetti emphasized on the good relations between the two nations and the potential of cooperation in many sectors, addressing also concerns in Italy about the raising competition by Chinese companies and the fact that Chinese investment in Europe not being directed enough to Italy. Referring to the significant presence of leading Italian companies on the Chinese market, Mr. Lorenzo Riccardi, Chairman of the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, reaffirmed the commitment to fostering deeper economic and cultural ties between Italy and China.
